We use two receivers from Topcon (Legacy) to measure the location of the base station precicely. This works by recording signals simmultaneously on both then using their software in order to calculate the position. This can be as accurate as 5mm. The recordings do take some time - 15mins for example and the results vary according to how many common satelites the systems see. Each unit has a 256MByte compact flash card whic acts as a data backup in case we did not retrieve the data.
We have written software which runs under Linux to fetch files automatically from the units.
Here is a plot of data from 29th Oct 2004 to 15th apr 2005.

2005/6 version has real time kinematic GPS - this needs a closer fixed GPS and a radio link between them.
